January is always a dismal month with slim pickings at the movie theater. This half-brained fish-out-of-water, cat-and-mouse medley with a dimwitted duo chasing a kickboxing kangaroo through the Australian outback is case and point. Jerry O’Connell co-stars as a proud beauty school graduate with his very own haircutting shears who gets sent down under with his portly sidekick (Anthony Anderson) to deliver $50,000 for his mob boss stepfather (Christopher Walken). Before the city slickers can say "g’day mate," they drive into a kangaroo only to learn that the mischievous marsupial is inexplicably alive and in possession of the loot. Since this simple set-up takes a mere 10 minutes, the remaining 80 are spent in ridiculous pursuit involving a camel caravan, a drunken aviator, tranquilizer darts and other licorice-loving, break-dancing, rapping ’roos. Even though director David McNally obviously doesn’t know jack about making a legitimately funny comedy flick, at least he released it in the right month.
