Re: “Ba-Dar Chinese Restaurant

I've long enjoyed Ba-Dar's vegetarian options.

Re: “Southside Showdown

Tucson Greyhound Park is a criminal enterprise. The dogs are routinely drugged, fed often diseased meat without it being processed to kill bacteria, and kept in cages 23 hours a day. If South Tucson won't act, it's time they disincorporate. Its patrons should be ashamed.

Re: “Signature Skirmish

I'm not at all surprised that Larsen Baker doesn't allow petition circulating at their malls, but not because their only interest is making money. I organized protests last year at Petland, which is the nation's largest retailer of puppies from puppy mills, and Larsen Baker vainly threatened and bluffed me to get me to stop using the public sidewalk. What most people don't know is that private business can send you packing for lots of reasons you think you are protected for. For instance, they don't need to admit gays or Jews. Though it's not like this is all about money grubbers. Back in 2006 the Susan Komen people got the cops to kick a bunch of us petition circulators out of Reid Park. The police legal advisor told me it was all wrong, but the damage was done.

Re: “Dead in the Desert

Reading this article I felt like getting a gun and waiting for the scum of humanity to drop by. At the end, a county official mentions educating these people, as if they're educable. Our county is certainly not very savvy about dog and cat issues.

Last month at the dog park I frequent, someone dropped off two dogs. Everyone thought how reprehensible it was, but some kind old man finally took them home. I suppose he or she figured that the dogs had a better chance at a new home there than at the pound or humane society.

Re: “Wake Up With the Birds

I'm guessing the bird pictured, the European kingfisher, isn't one of the birds at Agua Caliente Park.

Re: “Get Out of Town!

I was surprised that Tucson Greyhound Park wasn't given the boot, and then I realized it's not in Tucson. It's in the quasi-municipality of South Tucson. At least John Munger, lawyer for the sleazoids, got the boot. Is he the fellow who told the track vet to ignore the local law about giving steroids to young female dogs?

Re: “Greyhound Runaround

There are plenty of people to blame, but I don't know if Enrique Serna is one. Dr. Andy Carlton is certainly one to blame. Not only does he own Sahuaro Vista Veterinary Clinic, he works at the track, supposedly for the state. He's suppose to report on treatments and medications given the dogs, but he failed to mention in fourteen years of reports that untrained, unlicensed personnel were illegally giving steroids in unknown amounts to young female dogs. How does someone miss that? Does he not know what it's like when a dog goes into heat or hundreds of them don't go into heat for years on end?
