Re: “Babeu Outing Front and Center in First of Three AZ Presidential Debates. All Eyes on Tonight's Debate As Candidates Seek Breakthrough

Gay Republicans and Black Republicans hate themselves. Why else would they support a political party that actively works to deny them their civil rights?

Re: “Digging for Dollars

Right, like it's the ACLU's fault, as if they're rushing to defend drug smugglers. Since people are making preposterous right-wing claims, here's one from the left--maybe the problem is that selfish old people like "retired couple" don't want to pay taxes that would finance educational programs to teach the dangers of drug use, thus driving up demand.

Re: “Guns on Campus Bill Advances

If this goes through, I'm sure dozens if not hundreds of professors and graduate students would protest and resign, and the reputations of UA and ASU would slide even more than they have already. Unfortunately, you cannot have a world class university in a state whose politicians continue to make it a laughing stock for passing laws that are seen as backwards, racist, and violent by everybody else in the civilized world. No more millions of grant dollars, since international scientists would be scared to come on to campus. The brain drain would continue, as academics could no longer justify working here, and fewer of any quality would come to replace them. Grad students would no longer come, and the quality of teaching would continue to decline, since you could only attract second and third rate teachers. Arizona's universities would be less and less able to function as economic generators, since you can't attract business to a state whose population can't read or write at a level equal to the rest of the world.

If any of you radical first amendment lovers have any proof that an armed citizenry is safer than one that is not, show it, what are you waiting for. Bring it on, or keep your idiot legal interpretations to yourselves, and let places of education remain safe.

Re: “Crazy Arizona Legislation? Just a Regular Day in the Desert

Would these right-wing holier-than-thou types please stop trying to shove their morals down our throats? If I wanted to live under religious law I'd join a commune or move to the Middle East.

Re: “Why Does New York City Care About Arizona Gun Shows?

Why do you care who sponsored this investigation? They uncovered illegal activity, and Arizonans should be embarrassed. Sure, it was politically motivated, but that doesn't make what the seller did legal. The gun seller sold a gun to someone who told him he couldn't pass the background test. This is against the law. If you think it shouldn't be the law, and that criminals and the mentally ill should have guns, well then you're either a mentally ill criminal yourself, or you should work to have the law changed. Hell, let's let anyone buy a gun, let's put them in vending machines! On the other hand, if you think it is a good law, then you should support it being enforced better. Clearly the 'private seller' is also happy he doesn't have to do background checks, so maybe the 'private seller' nonsense needs to go too. To own a gun you should have to have a license, issued by the state, requiring a safety class and a periodic background check. We do it with cars, why on Earth don't we do it with guns.

Re: “Serraglio

Too bad the money can't be used to keep bikers safe rather than to harass them. I've nearly been run over half a dozen times at intersections like 3rd/Olsen, by cars thinking that the bikes have stop signs when they don't. A few signs saying 'bicycles do not stop' under the stop signs at those intersections might help.

And thank you to the woman passing out bike maps at the infamous corner of 3rd and Treat yesterday, forcing bikers to stop, while a gaggle of bike cops huddled off to the side, foiled by her good deed.
