Re: “Ally's Follies

Bog Mann,

The recommendations were from the County Transportation Dept. staff. The arterial roads guidance is from the original language of the passed $5 million road monies (From the Streets of Ire article: So when the Democrats on the board voted to include $5 million in road-repair dollars, they did it with a caveat that "it has to go to regionally significant and major arteries," Valadez said. "Why? Because then I can go to my voters and say, 'This road might be located outside your district, but you take Oracle Road, don't you? You take River Road, don't you?' And you can make the argument that we all benefit."). Roads are meant to move people around, and last time I checked nobody drives to work through those far-flung residential streets she wanted to fix up.

She has every right to ignore the recommendations of a department designed to know about roads and traffic and such, after all she previously worked for a defense contractor and I have to assume it was in their urban planning department (sarcasm intended here)

Simply put, she isn't doing her job, or isn't fully understanding what she was elected to do in the first place. I would agree with you that she should be voted out by her undeserved constituents, but I don't think the county, and D1 in particular can withstand this much dumb until 2016.

I hereby declare the end of my bleeding-heart-democrat rebuttal :)

Re: “Ally's Follies

The difference is that 1) Ally voted against the money anyway, 2) they didn't take ALL the money, just her portion of the $5 million road repair fund that again I have to point out she voted against, 3) they did so because she refused to follow recommendations of using the money to repair arterial roads everyone uses, not seldom used roads in sub-developments, and 4) it's being used to correct a horrible situation out on Colossal Cave Rd that effects virtually every man woman and child leaving or entering Vail. There's political retribution (Christy) and then there's using funds for the intended purpose of improving the overall county road situation for as many county residents as possible.
