Jonah Hex is not a good movie, though there are elements of good movies present. Josh Brolin is remarkably convincing as Hex, a former Civil War soldier seeking vengeance against the man who killed his family and left him horribly scarred (John Malkovich). That same can’t be said for Megan Fox, who is constantly under the public microscope, but has so little to do in most of her movies. It’s no different here, as she bravely avoids typecasting by playing an Old West prostitute. The messy story is told too quickly—the film lasts 80 minutes—and that squanders Brolin’s good work and some interesting touches here and there from director Jimmy Hayward. They’d be better off in another movie.
