Biography, Docudrama, Musical
There’s an interesting story behind Rock n' Roll Hall of Famers Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. They turned it into a wildly successful Broadway musical, which has been adapted for the screen by Clint Eastwood. It's an odd, odd mix. "Jersey Boys" feels like it's still on stage, which is rarely if ever a good experience. Eastwood doesn't seem to have a lot of passion for the project, which should be nothing but passion, and there are small technical things (green screen distortion in the film's one driving scene, horrible makeup to age the characters) that make the film seem not worth the director’s effort. The music is the highlight, but you know that going in. There's really not much to recommend "Jersey Boys" other than the performance of Erich Bergen as Four Seasons songwriter Bob Gaudio and the fact that tickets are cheaper than seeing this on stage.
