Re: “Mysteries in the Mountains

thanks for the story. Let me tell you one of my own. Different place similar event...and no I'm not kidding. I was in college in the late 80s. This would've been around 88 or 89. A buddy was an archeology major and he wanted to to go look for pottery sherds. We took I-10 east just past where it crossed the Gila and then took one of the roads across the res to where the cultural center was, perhaps a mile past that (I guess to the west or north) we stopped and got out. Immediately we started gathering sherds. We'd fill our hands and carry them back to the truck (yes, I know we shouldn't have...we were kids). Anyway on one trip from the desert to the truck, I looked to my left and just past some brush I saw a little clearing. There was a mat of some type a large partially broken pot and a handfull of other pieces laying around. I marked the spot in my head and hurried to the truck and dropped off my load. I went straight back to the spot. When I got there my buddy was walking back and forth looking. The pot, the mat and the other items were gone. Not there. David (my friend) said you saw that pot, right? I said "yeah where is it." He said it's not here and then he said they're messing with us. I asked who and he told me that often when they would go to a site...they would see and hear things that would turn out not to be there. The "they" were the Indian spirits. I don't know about spirits or time travel, but I'll tell you...weird stuff happens in the desert. It just does.
