Re: “Taste Over Trend

Coming to Tucson for "that Old West experience" is about as dead as it's possible to get. With the exception of "Old Tucson", "Pinnacle Peak" and "Tanque Verde Guest Ranch", there isn't much left of the "Old West" hereabouts. The days of Western "Dude Ranches" is largely over, and Western "Stomp Bars" are pretty largely gone.

El Paso is still a city that embraces its "Old West" heritage, with several noteworthy manufacturers of Western goods (El Paso Saddlery, Tony Lama, Luccese, Justin Boots, Caboots, etc.). There are also a number of Western music bars in El Paso.

Tucson has become much less a "Western" town and much more a trendy, metropolitan area with an emphasis on retirement villas galore in the surrounding areas.

Re: “Danehy

@CW13 - I wasn't drafted, but I did serve in the Army from 1963-1967. Luckily, I never served in Vietnam because I had a choice of duty stations after my first overseas assignment in Turkey. I spent the last two years of my military duty in Japan.

If I hadn't joined in 1963 I would probably have been drafted, and unlike Cadet Bone Spurs, I wouldn't have been able to get multiple deferments, including a note from my doctor. I would probably have been right on my way to Vietnam after Basic Training and Advanced Infantry School.

I have another friend, who was drafted, and he arrived in Vietnam just in time for the Tet Offensive. Today, he has PTSD and partial disability for exposure to Agent Orange. And, I can assure you he considers Trump to be a draft dodger!

Re: “Kids Nowadays. They're Awful(ly Wonderful)!

@Roger P - You've got to be kidding. The N.R.A. long ago abandoned their former major activities of teaching gun safety and promoting firearms for sporting use. They've become an advocacy group for extreme interpretations of the 2nd Amendment rights and supporting the firearms industry, from whom they receive substantial contributions. And, of course, the N.R.A. also is a major campaign contributor to politicians who toady to their line on no gun laws.

Re: “The Weekly List: 23 Things To Do In Tucson This Week

What, exactly, is the point of telling us about "Free UA Museum Entry" on the campus of the University of Arizona that occurred on Thursday, February 22, from Noon to 8:00pm, when your email is dated February 23, 4:36am?

My access to a time machine is pretty limited, do you have one that is available for subscribers?

Great! Thanks Pima Library, I just added the Kanopy streaming channel on my Roku device. What a nice public service!

Re: “Guero Canelo Has Won a James Beard Award

I read in my morning paper that Daniel Contreras credits the success of his Sonoran hot dogs to the buns. He has the ones for El Guero Canelo made in Magdalena, Sonora!

Re: “Cinema Clips: Killing Ground

The reviews for this movie on Rotten Tomatoes really seem to be of the variety that it's basically a horrible movie that portrays violence with no purpose other than to shock. No thanks...
