Lovely, strangely over-exposed cinematography doesn’t quite make up for a plot and dialogue that seem like a Second City TV parody of an art film. A nameless man goes to a small town to commit suicide. While there, he boards with an elderly religious woman. Does love blossom between them? Do people stare fixedly at the empty sky? Are there long pauses after people speak? Yes, yes and yes! Dude, just kill yourself in the first reel and get it over with! OK, so this is a gorgeous and perhaps moving film that many art-lovers will enjoy. However, if I were to see it again, I’d bring a blanket and pillow.
