In a pitiful excuse to work together, one of Hollywood’s great movie-making families unfortunately wastes its talents by merely walking through the motions with this heavy-handed, soap-opera sappiness that will make viewers run from this family. Kirk Douglas plays the stubborn, pessimistic patriarch with high hopes set for his son (Michael Douglas) who now helms the family law firm while posing as the dutiful dad, husband and benevolent member of society. However, the legal eagle can’t meet daddy’s expectations after he is forced off a main account, loses his son (Cameron Douglas) to sex, drugs and an apathetic attitude, and commits adultery with his co-volunteer at the soup kitchen. While Cameron shows promise, the Douglas legacy will continue to reign on the big screen. But the three generations shouldn’t collaborate again, especially with a script that follows the cinema checklist of cheese, not to mention an illegal Jewish Viking funeral ceremony.
