Intacto

This is the most David Lynch-esque film ever made by anyone besides David Lynch. Intacto tells the odd story of a group of disparate Europeans who all have the power to steal people’s luck. Engaging in strange games of chance, they compete for the opportunity to play Russian roulette with a man named Samuel whom they call The Jew, and whose luck-stealing powers allowed him to survive the concentration camps. Max von Sydow, the greatest living actor in the world (at least that’s what William Friedkin told him when he wanted to get him to play a priest in The Exorcist, and, hell, it’s probably true) plays Samuel, who sits in the eerily lit basement of a glowing casino that exists alone in a desert landscape. Tomas (Leonardo Sbaraglia) and Federico (Eusebio Poncela) seek him out in order to regain the souls of those they love, while police officer Sara (Monica Lopez), who also has luck-stealing power, hunts them down. Awesome stuff, guaranteed fun, and creepy as all get-out, Intacto is in spanglo-french europanto, with English subtitles where needed.

Intacto is not showing in any theaters in the area.
