Three important notes this week:

• The Southern Arizona professional chapter for the Society of Professional Journalists is trying to put together a forum on Saturday, Dec. 1, called "2025: The Future of Journalism." One key portion of the forum is a contest for local high school newspapers/journalists: We're asking for presentations on what journalism will look like and be like in 2025. If you're a high school journalist who's interested in putting together a presentation, please e-mail either me, Polly Higgins (

phiggins@tucsoncitizen.com ) or Jennifer Sterba (jsterba@azstarnet.com) NO LATER than Wednesday, Nov. 14. Prizes for the best presentations include a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 digital camera. If you know of a high school journalist who may be interested, please pass the word along. Thanks!

• If your business/organization was a first-place finisher in our recent Best of Tucson^TM, please note: We're in the process of distributing FREE certificates to all of the readers' choice winners. (Staff-pick winners can request a certificate, also for free).

If you're approached by--or get an invoice from--a company trying to sell you a certificate or plaque, that company has no relation whatsoever to the Tucson Weekly or the Best of Tucson^TM. Let me reiterate: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY TO GET A CERTIFICATE FROM US.

Obviously, we're bringing this up because at least one business was confused about a sales pitch regarding a BOT plaque. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
