In Good Company is perfectly
competent filmmaking, and nothing more.
I found that disappointing, because I think
director/writer Paul Weitz has a great film
in him, and sometimes it sneaks out of
him, and then he runs it through the
commercial-palatability machine, and he
makes American Pie. This one
lacks the semen-centered humor of that
earlier work, so I guess its more
"mature," but its story about a 50-year-old
man who finds that his new boss is a
26-year-old
whos sleeping with his
daughter! is just a little too standard in
its cutesy twist. Nonetheless, both
Dennis Quaid, who plays the 26-year-old,
and Topher Grace, who plays the
50-year-old, are great. Wait, no, Quaid
plays the old guy and Grace the young
one. But I think it would have been much
more interesting if they had switched. Oh
well. At least you get to see Scarlett
Johansson make goo-goo eyes while
wearing a tight top.
