Please wait patiently for this dark comedy to explode into the thought-provoking masterpiece that it is. The story builds slowly, depicting two Irish hitmen hiding out in Bruges after a job goes terribly wrong. Brendan Gleeson plays the fatherly assassin who comes to love Belgium’s well-preserved medieval town, while Colin Farrell is the cocky playboy with layers of regret beneath the surface. Prostitutes, drug dealers, a dwarf and a nasty villain (Ralph Fiennes) help orchestrate the unpredictable and ingenious conclusion that’s masterfully woven in by playwright Martin McDonagh.
