Humanities Week

The UA College of Humanities kicks off humanities week with the Southern Arizona Language Fair, featuring more than 2,000 competitors from 45 area schools, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday April 4, in the Modern Languages Building (1423 E. University Blvd.). A panel discussion titled "Cross-Fertilizations of the Humanities and the Sciences" takes place from 4 to 5 p.m., Monday, April 6, in Auditorium 120 in the Integrated Learning Center (1500 E. University Blvd.). Richard Shelton of the UA Creative Writing Program reflects on 30 years of teaching writing in Arizona prisons from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Cushing Street Bar and Restaurant (198 W. Cushing St.). An information fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, on the UA Mall. A screening of short French films takes place from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, in Auditorium 120 in the Integrated Learning Center. Malcolm Compitello, head of the UA Department of Spanish and Portuguese, presents "Hollywood on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown: Spain Conquers the American Silver Screen" from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 9, in Room 410 of the UA Meinel Optical Sciences Building (1630 E. University Blvd.). A screening of Der blaue Engel screens from 7:30 to 9:45 p.m., Thursday, April 9, in Auditorium 140 in the Integrated Learning Center. Forgotten Lives, a documentary by UA professor David Soren, screens from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 13, in Room 150 of Harvill Auditorium (1103 E. Second St.). All events are free.
