Honey

Jessica Alba is a beauty to behold, but her film, about a hip-hop schoolteacher trying to hit the big-time as a video choreographer, is hell on Earth. It’s essentially Flashdance all over again, although Alba is perhaps a better dancer than Jessica Beals (there’s less need for a dancing double), and there’s no evidence that her character is into welding. The story is stale and the acting wooden, with only the occasional decent dance number to break the monotony. As Honey, Alba delivers a decent physical performance, but her dialogue is a joke, and her adventures in the music-industry world offer nothing original or worthy of remembering. A subplot involving Honey’s attempts to get neighborhood kids a new dance school feels tacked on to give the film a feature length runtime. A laughable mess.

Honey is not showing in any theaters in the area.
