Hidden Cinema of the Southwest and Mexico

A symposium and two screenings examine how filmmakers imagined the American Southwest and Mexico. Screenings of Canyonlands: Edward Abbey and the Great American Desert and A Line in the Sand: Arivaca take place at the UA Poetry Center (1508 East Helen Street)from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25. $5. A discussion with experimental filmmaker David Sherman follows a screening of his Wasteland Utopias at the Center for Creative Photography (1030 North Olive Road) from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26. $5. The symposium takes place at the Center for Creative Photography from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26. $75; $50 for students with ID; symposium registration includes films.
