Gulliver's Travels

The one advantage Gulliver’s Travels has in its favor is a worldwide and generations-deep familiarity with the story, written almost three centuries ago. It’s barely an exaggeration to say that nearly as much time has passed since Jack Black was funny, and he’s the problem with this update, which also features the increasingly empty promise of a 3-D experience. Black is always over-the-top, and his shtick simply doesn’t work with the rest of the elements. Kids may laugh, but what do they know? If that is the overall goal, then Black isn’t the problem; everything else is. While not detestable, Gulliver’s Travels is dragged down to mediocre or slightly worse by bad casting that takes the rest of the film hostage.

Gulliver's Travels is not showing in any theaters in the area.
