Dark comedy
Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, this bit of satire is at times brutally funny. Joel Murray plays Frank, a man who is so disgusted by society that when he is diagnosed with a brain tumor, he goes on a killing spree to rid the world of the Paris Hilton-types and American Idol nuts. He takes along a high school student, Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), as an accomplice—and the whole thing is sick in the head. The film falters a little bit when Goldthwait tries for real sentiment. Nothing in this film should be portrayed as real and genuine; it should all be fantasy—and if you see it, you will know what I mean. Murray is good here, as is Barr. This is about as cynical as moviemaking can get, and its central message is very interesting.
