Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, have been a buzzword since the "going green" trend swept the country. Organic choices at grocery stores and in restaurants boast being GMO free, but what does that mean, exactly? On Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 5:50 to 7:30 p.m. Science café Environmental Health on the Rocks is bringing in two UA scientists who are experts in food security, international nutrition and genome biology to discuss genetically modified organisms and food security. They will informally converse about why GMOs exist, their safeness, their relation to us, and any benefits they have. The free social hour will take place at Gentle Ben's Brewing Company, 865 E. University Blvd. Information is listed on the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center website, swehsc.pharmacy.arizona.
