Can you evade Deaths Design through
some cosmic loophole that will cross you
off Deaths List? Director David R. Ellis
challenges death to a duel in order to find
out in this sci-fi horror sequel to the 2000
original. Ellis gains some ground with the
effectively stylized premonition
sequences of freak accidents, the
calculated chain reaction of booby traps
and the appropriate fast pace of this
chilling contest. Despite these successful
scores, the director loses points for the
cheesy special effects, the in-your-face
irony that foreshadows upcoming
disasters and the convoluted plot twists
used with the hope of cheating death. In
the end, the competition between death
and the director is a toss up.
