Documentary
Whether it’s Super Size Me; Forks Over Knives; Fat, Sick & and Nearly Dead; or the new release, Fed Up, the past decade has seen its fair share of diet documentaries. All of them say pretty much the same thing using different words: Too much processed food will kill you. Fed Up is less about prescriptions and more about the layers of lobbyists and bureaucrats responsible for allegedly lethal amounts of sugar being added to nearly everything you buy. The documentary is produced by Katie Couric, who also serves as an off-camera interviewer of President Clinton, dietitians and a few morbidly obese kids who, try as they may, can’t get healthy because the stores are stacked against them. This is a good role for the itinerant Couric, but because it’s mostly one-sided, the accusations in Fed Up come off as indirect. Helpful as a dietary tool, but indirect.
