Re: “The Tucson Weekly Endorsement: Ron Barber

If Kelly were to get elected, go to Washington, and, as he would be required to do by the Republican leadership, sign the Devil Norquist pledge and support the Ryan budget, when he returned to Arizona, "grandpa" might just beat the Hell out of him.

Re: “Update This!

Twowheeler, the answer to your question is simple. A lot of people, who call themselves conservative, and who claim to want the government to get out of our lives, want to control how you live yours.

Re: “Downing

There's that "Marxist" word again. During World War II, Frank Sinatra paid 90% of his income in taxes and he still lived better than just about anybody. And, he didn't COMPLAIN about it.

Frdmftr must be congratulated for making the most ignorant, uninformed post in the history of comments.

Re: “Mailbag

"If our government can seal off Area 51 so tight that even a gnat can't get in, we can absolutely seal our own border."
This may be true, BUT, are the taxpayers willing to pay for it? I doubt it.

Re: “Paper Marriage

I grew up in Alabama during the 50's and 60's. Look up any story on discrimination back then; replace Negro with gay, and you will have today's news. Look up comments by Klan members about why Negros don't deserve equal rights; change Negro to gay, and you will have the same comments being expressed by "conservatives" today. Go back ever further and read why Negros should not be allowed to serve in the military, and you will find the same reasons being given against repealing "don't ask, don't tell", by congressional candidates,in the Weekly this week.

Re: “Soundbites

I have a question about AVA. The last time Santana played there, I got the best seat I could get and went to the concert. During the concert, one of their very rude security folks threatened to confiscate my binoculars or kick me out if I didn't put them away. I am 63 years old and don't see as well as I once did. I haven't been back. Can anyone give a reason why an outdoor concert arena would have a rule banning binoculars? I have asked several times and sent emails and a letter to AVA and received NO replies. I now limit myself to Desert Diamond, which has no such ridiculous policy. I have been to concerts all over the country and have never encountered this before. A search of the AVA website has found no such rule, yet security seems bound to enforce it. I would appreciate any information about this "rule". I am missing many great concerts (Tony Bennett) and don't like driving to Phoenix, but I cannot support any venue who treats its customers in this way.
