This Swedish film is an overly long but frequently moving family drama. Set in the early 20th century, it tells the story of an abusive marriage between Sigfrid and Maria Larsson, and how Maria finds redemption through photography. There’s some unsurprisingly beautiful cinematography, and the movie is diverting in the way mediocre period films can be, but unless you’re hard up for Swedish fun and don’t have access to any candy fish or turnips, you might want to skip this one.
