End of the Spear

While the motivating article in LIFE magazine might have been appealing, this big-screen adaptation is not. In 1956 Ecuador, the Waorani tribe’s persistent impulse to kill one another brutally brought the tribe to the brink of extinction. Therefore, five Christian missionaries tried to save the remaining lives with the word of God. Unfortunately the savage clan wasn’t ready to listen, since they slaughtered their saviors. The widow and son (Chad Allen) of one slain missionary were spared, and they try again to save the volatile tribe. The sentimentality is laid on too thick, and the continuous killing is too gruesome to impart any sense of entertainment.
