Time to get busy

The hope I expressed recently that organizers start doing what they do best is happening in Tucson and across the country.

Yes, there are protests, with some good protesters and some bad, but organizing is what's needed to keep activists on target. And while that's going on, it's common lately to hear about people being harassed throughout the country and now in Tucson, the idea being that this newly elected Brietbart-loving administration has supporters who eagerly want folks to know they have an administration that kind of agrees with their values when it comes to minorities, LGBT folks and Muslims. That TV "stop it," from Trump, well, it's a little late now, isn't it?

If any of this is bothering you and you're wondering what you can do next, consider going to the We Stand Together kick-off at the YWCA of Southern Arizona (525 N. Bonita Ave.), on Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This campaign to speak up for our Tucson neighbors and stand up against bigotry and prejudice, is sponsored by the Southern Arizona Hate Crimes Task Force, the YWCA Southern Arizona, the Jewish History Museum, the UA Women's Resource Center and the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation.

Participants will learn how to respond when they are being harassed or see someone else being harassed and also tips on how to respond to friends, family and coworkers when it comes to prejudice.

Organizers hope the public, as well as business owners, nonprofit and faith leaders, and law enforcement and government officials—all make it out to this event to help create alliances across the city.

These are great organizations involved in putting this together. Big abrazos to everyone, but especially the YWCA (ywcatucson.org) for continuing to help build bridges in all areas of our community with social justice at the top of their list.
