Ballot Box Basics

Campaign season is in full swing, so you can expect us to load up the paper with plenty of news about who's running for office between now and Election Day. This week, Danyelle Khmara takes a look at the race in Congressional District 1 between incumbent Democrat Tom O'Halleran and Republican challenger Wendy Rogers. We've also got a roundup of who's running for state office, with more in-depth stories on the horizon.

Elsewhere in the book: The Skinny notes that Ally Miller and her cronies sure seem opposed to fixing our roads; columnist Tom Danehy remembers Burt Reynolds; feature writer Jeff Gardner not only tells us about the new glass straws at Hotel Congress, he also previews this week's Arizona Underground Film Festival and talks to Tahir Hussain Faridi Qawwal of Fanna-Fi-Allah, a band that will be performing Sufi music at the Rialto Theatre this Friday, Sept. 14; calendar editor Emily Dieckman attends a very surrealistic (and messy!) dinner party at Tucson's Museum of Contemporary Art; arts writer Margaret Regan previews next week's performance by Artifact Dance Project; theater writer Sherilyn Forrester reviews the latest productions by Invisible Theatre and Rogue Theatre; cannabis columnist Nick Meyers runs down where some of this year's candidates stand on marijuana issues; and we have the usual guides to having a great time in Tucson, so why not get out and enjoy all this city has to offer?
