Raising Hell

Bryan Sanders made headlines across the globe last year when he took a beating at a Trump rally here in Tucson. Sanders, who is now producing a podcast called American Babylon (follow him on Twitter @AmericanBabylon), is a man who has plenty to say about President Donald Trump. He talks about why he was protesting at the Trump rally and what happened to him afterwards. Some of you are gonna love it and some of you are gonna hate it. I'm sure a lot of you will be commenting on it on our website.

Elsewhere this week: Danyelle Khmara looks into a new YWCA program that's helping Latinas deal with domestic violence and other issues; Margaret Regan wants you to check out a great summer show at downtown's Contreras Gallery; Kyle Mittan tells you all about the Pima County Library's Mega Mania!! event this weekend; Nick Meyers looks into why Nevada is already running out of recreational weed; and there's so much more!

And hey, let's hear it for the rain, right? The first real summer storm broke while I was at Emil Franzi's memorial service at the Mountain Oyster Club on Monday night. While none of us were happy about the circumstances, it's not often you find this kind of collection of people together. You had Congresswoman Martha McSally, Arizona Daily Star cartoonist Dave Fitzsimmons, Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson, Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry, Second Amendment enthusiasts, environmental activists, right-wingers, left-wingers and a whole bunch of real-life cowboys. It was delightful to hear so many stories of Emil's adventures and to meet his wonderful daughters and his only granddaughter (who got her first rifle from Emil when she was 14 years old). My thanks to National Republican Committeeman Bruce Ash for hosting the celebration of Emil's hell-raising life and inviting me to be part of it.

Finally: We're in the final round of voting for this year's Best of Tucson, so be sure to get your vote in! If you don't cast a vote, the Russian hackers might do it for you. Cast your ballot before July 31.
