On the Road Again

Had enough potholes yet?
Had enough potholes yet?

I've been writing about transportation in Pima County for well over a decade now, so I can tell you this unpleasant truth: You're not fixing the roads without money. And while there are probably better ways of paying for street repair than the short-term bonds Pima County is asking voters to approve in November, you're not going to see a gas tax increase at the state or federal level anytime soon.

So, if you're sick of driving on bad roads, vote yes on Prop. 463. We lay out more reasons in our endorsement.

And if you're going to vote against it, just know you're on the road to Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller's Crazytown—and you're gonna hit a lot of potholes along the way.

Elsewhere in this week's book: Danyelle Khmara explains what's at stake with Prop. 305, the referendum that would block the Arizona Legislature's massive expansion of school vouchers; Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson explains why she voted against the federal Operation Stonegarden grant; theater writer Sherilyn Forrester digs into Arizona Theatre Company's production of Native Gardens; arts writer Margaret Regan takes a look at two shows that are off the beaten path; music contributor Eric Swedlund takes a dip with Lake Street Dive; comedy correspondent Linda Ray rounds up a bunch of upcoming shows; and there's the usual guides to the best places to hear great live music, see great movies and generally have fun this week.

See you on the road!
