Action, Mystery, Thriller
If it weren’t for the casting of Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan, this ridiculous thriller would be a total piece of garbage. Shia plays a copy-shop worker who returns to his apartment and discovers it’s loaded with terrorist paraphernalia. He then gets a phone call telling him to run, and things go nuts from there. At the center is a grating female voice ordering Shia and Monaghan to do all sorts of crazy things, leading to a plot to kill the president. The origins of that voice are absolutely insane, derailing the movie on every level—and the film’s climax, involving a computer knocking people over, is just ludicrous. LaBeouf and Monaghan manage to keep things mildly entertaining, but director D.J. Caruso and friends just don’t know where to stop. Really, do you think somebody making a computer would construct it so that it would have the ability to stick out an appendage and kill you?
