Dust Devil

I want to grow.

I want to grow until this planter

Is no match

For my refuse-to-be-silenced roots.

I want to grow until I am

Big and strong,

And my roots are as long and wide

As my mesquite canopy.

I want to grow until my spine

Is so sharp

No desert beast will dare to eat me.

    Slowly, creeping, turn the corner.

    sighs like passion grieved.
