They met in the shade of his favorite mesquite tree. He used the shy approach and that evening they made love among the saguaros and sagebrush. Afterwards, he gazed into her emerald eyes and embraced her. Over her shoulder, he watched the setting sun spill bold streaks of red and orange across the purple sky. Waves of contentment washed over him as her cold mandibles closed around his fragile neck.
