Down With Love

A shot-by-shot homage to those goofy Doris Day-Rock Hudson films of the ’60s, your ability to like Peyton Reed’s tongue-in-cheek comedy relies upon your affinity that particular genre of American moviemaking. Renee Zellweger is a luminous treat as a feminist author who creates a nationwide movement for women to replace men with chocolate. Ewan McGregor is funny as a conniving magazine writer looking to expose her as a fraud. David Hyde Pierce steals the show in the Tony Randall role (Randall, himself, appears in a funny cameo as a magazine executive). A lot of fun, but also a little irritating at times.
