Re: “Basically Legal

I absolutely agree with you, Bob Regan! The ratio of marijuana-related DUIs is extremely minimal versus alcohol-related DUIs. Alcohol is a MUCH bigger problem in our society for a variety of reasons (i.e. car accidents, domestic violence, anger issues, death, rape, and numerous medical issues (including, but certainly not limited to Cirrhosis), etc.

There's nothing about pot that says, 'I want to get behind the wheel and drive;' on the contrary, pot makes you laugh, is a relaxant, helps with insomnia, makes you more philosophical, combats nausea, and has countless other positive effects. Most people who smoke are aware that they'll most likely get 'the munchies,' so they plan ahead and have food and snacks on-hand; in addition, they don't want to drive impaired. In actuality, pot smokers don't want to do much physical exertion at all because they want to enjoy their high, be artistic and creative, and simply veg. There are a multitude of successful people who smoke pot on a daily basis, so it's far from a 'Hippie' issue these days. I know many people who are doctors, attorneys, professors, executives, and so on, who smoke pot. I'm actually shocked myself at times because I catch myself thinking, 'Wow, I'm shocked that he/she smokes pot because they don't look like someone who would!' Well, my friends and I don't look like we would either, but we do, and it's great that society is finally realizing the many benefits of marijuana. I, nor any of my friends, have or would ever smoke pot before or during our work day; there's a time and a place for it.

Regardless of your vice (i.e. alcohol, pot, food, etc.), if it's gotten out of your control, you need to address the issue and seek help from friends, family, and/or professionals. As with everything else in life, it's all about balance and making responsible choices.

Re: “Oh Great, Arizona. Now George Takei is Pissed Off.

If Jan Brewer approved this bill, we MUST impeach her. I am a Republican and I support gay marriage; I believe that everyone deserves to become legally married, if they choose to do so. I am Pro-Choice, as I don't believe that anyone should legally be able to tell us that we HAVE to carry a child or otherwise. Government should solely regulate roadways, parks, libraries, litigitation, etc., but not have a hand in personal choices and lifestyle, unless those choices can physically harm others. As with radio and television, if you don't like the channel, change the station; if you don't want to eat, shop, watch movies, etc. with gay people, then stay home where you have complete control over your environment. This is one of the most ridiculous bills and I cannot believe that our state senators and representatives have gotten it to the governor's desk - shame, shame, shame! In 1969, when I was four years old, my dad relocated us from New York City to Tucson because he wanted us to have a better life with far less negative influences than we would've encountered living in NYC. He wanted us to be able to have land to play on, a swimming pool, a nice home that wasn't connected to another dwelling, etc.; also, he was finishing his degree in Geology and The University of Arizona was the prime place for it. For the most part, I have been proud to be a Tucsonan and Arizonan for the past 45 years, but whenever one of these ludicrous, discriminatory bills surfaces, I can't help but wonder WTF the politicans are thinking!

Re: “Kardashians at the Meet Rack: God's Just Happy for the Cameras

While the 'Meet Rack' can certainly make it onto a list of the 'Worst Dive Bars in the U.S.' and is a horrific representation of Tucson, negative publicity is better than no publicity at all, I suppose. Millions of viewers throughout the world will hear 'Tucson, AZ' and the visual attached to it will be the 'Meet Rack.' The bar is colorful, dirty, only accepts cash, has no A/C (Hello, it's Tucson?!?!?); in addition to that and many other things, the bar has an S & M room w/equipment that looks like it's NEVER been cleaned, and the women's restroom has a condom machine that is rigged to bells and sirens, so if you buy a condom and open the door to walk back into the bar, the spotlight is on you.

More than likely, it was Kourtney's idea to go to the 'Meet Rack,' as it existed when she was a UA student, so she knows that it will get viewers talking. In 2002, Kourtney Kardashian graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts - Major: Theater Arts. I always heard that she graduated from the UA's Eller College of Management with a business degree, which would explain her business savvy, as she primarily runs the sisters' 'D-A-S-H' stores and more.

I guess whomever tunes in will see how Tucsonans are portrayed to the rest of the world; hopefully, they won't believe the hype.

Re: “Eegee's Is Testing a Sugar-Free Flavor

We had the new Skinny Berry Eegee last night and it was very good; actually, we hope that they keep it because we've been saying for years that Eegee's needed to have a sugar-free option. Granted, the original is better, but some Flavor-of-the-Months are too sweet, as are the standard Lemon, Strawberry, and Pina Colada flavors. The sugar-free Eegee is made with Truvia, a natural sweetner, so it's obviously much healthier than any of the artificial sweeteners (i.e. Sweet 'N Low, Splenda, Equal, etc.).

A key fact that this article neglected to share is the calorie content of the Skinny Berry Eegee, as stating 'which isn't a zero calorie option, after all, there's still fruit and fruit juice involved,' immediately makes inquiring minds, like mine, want to know how the calorie count. Unlike the writer of this article, I easily researched it by contacting the Eegee's Corporate Office, and the good news is that there are ONLY 10 CALORIES PER 8 OZ. SERVING.

PLEASE spread the word about the new sugar-free option because after all these years, those who need sugar-free products for health-related reasons, would love for this to become a standard flavor. Yum! :o)
