They are on the verge of senility. They embark on midnight topless joyrides. They initiate food fights with future KKK members. They spike drinks of the unsuspecting with tranquilizers. They wear exotic headdresses and chant a contrived foreign language during routine séances. They take resentful and stubborn writers hostage for a forced family heritage rehabilitation and enlightenment. And who are they? They are free-spirited elderly southern belles armed with alcohol, cigarettes, gum and an oxygen tank who bring a self-absorbed ex-psych ward patient closer to her estranged daughter. They are the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and writer/director Callie Khouri adapts Rebecca Wells' novel to reveal their truly divine secrets.
