Whatever happened to the man once known as the Maverick Senator? Perhaps more than anything else, Arizona needs a senator who will rally enough senators to rebuild our infrastructure. Sounds like McCain has confirmed that he is not the that senator; a far cry from his gracious concession speech in 2008 in which he promised to cooperate and work together.
Excellent article. Regarding the two theories as to how MJ became illegal: both are true and one does not preclude the other. Thanks for the historical perspective and for mentioning Hari's excellent book: Chasing The Scream. It is a well documented, global and comprehensive book - a really good read as well - on the so-called war on drugs, not just MJ.

Could it be that majority politicians' hate for all things public, including public education as demonstrated by excessive control and lack of funding, has anything to do with it?
I would like to suggest that for-profit colleges would not be near the problem that they currently are if public community colleges and four year colleges and universities were fully funded and held accountable to do what they were intended to do.
With all due respect, Rat T, you are the one here expressing "Instant outrage." It appears to me that your instant outrage is fired off before reading this article - an article that I find expressive of hope and a desire to find understanding and virtually devoid of outrage - except for your comment.
It is time to vote for the candidates who will support and fund public education, including Pima Community College and the U of A. Friese fits that description and he will get my vote.
