Country Gravy & Other Obsessions

Meet Mavis Applebee and Myrtle McGillicurdle. Between them, they wear cat-eye glasses, a bouffant bun, pearls and hats. They are coming to town to ... move over Dr. Phil ... give us a relationship seminar.

Starring in the musical comedy Country Gravy & Other Obsessions, Julia Laskowski (Mavis) and Patricia Rabaza (Myrtle) dish about relationships between husbands and wives, bosses and employees and even relationships with cars and food. How do you stop your husband from going to the fridge for another hot dog? Squirt him with a bottle of water! Along the way, Myrtle's boss, DeeAndra Joneford, trys to take over the seminar. Myrtle then teaches the audience "the best way to have a great relationship is to control the other person."

Mavis and Myrtle sing songs including "Stuff It" (the way to deal with difficult feelings) and "French Fry on the Floorboard" (about Mavis' favorite obsession). There's even an operatic fight scene.

Country Gravy and Other Obsessions will be performed at the ZUZI! Theatre, 738 N. Fifth Ave., from July 31 through Aug. 3. Shows are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $22.50 and available at brownpapertickets.com/event/758241. For more info on the show, visit countrygravyobsessions.com.
