Rated NR

A good entry to the tired genre of conman movies, Edward Burns delivers one of his best acting jobs yet as a grifter with a flair for elaborate scams. When his latest crew inadvertently rips off a crime kingpin (an extremely sleazy Dustin Hoffman), he and his cohorts are forced to pull off the con of a lifetime. The film does a good job of hiding its eventualities, and performances from Burns, Hoffman and the great Paul Giamatti keep things humming. Hoffman hasn’t been this disgusting since Midnight Cowboy’s Ratso Rizzo. Burns hasn’t been this good since Saving Private Ryan.
