Re: “The Middle East-Studies Ban

Thanks Beware for the information. Here is a statement from somebody who had personal experience with his deception regarding his pretending to be Jewish while on the blocked flotilla to Gaza:
"In his editorial about joining the flotilla to Gaza, Gabriel Schivone represented himself as a Jewish college student. I feel I must point out that this not his true identity, but one he has created in order to generate insider credibility, shield himself from accusations of anti-Semitism, and resonate with a target audience.

...Gabriel is not Jewish, whether in terms of ethnic ancestry, religious belief, or cultural identity. He has never identified as a Jew until it became useful in advancing his political agenda. During the High Holiday season of 2007, Gabriel told me that he discussed Israel with campus representatives of Chabad, identifying himself as a Jew. When asked why he did this, he explained that he has a distant Jewish relative and that "you use what you have."
And use it he did, having no apparent problem with the deception."

This is reckless irresponsible journalism on the part of the Tucson Weekly. The author has an obvious extreme anti-Israeli bias, and he is obviously drudging up this almost 30 year old issue to advance his anti-Israel agenda by trying to link it to the current Ethnic Studies controversy. The issues are obviously very different. It is also unfortunate that Rep Grijalva fails to maintain the courage of his convictions on this matter.

Furthermore, the article fails to shed any light or make any relevant points about the current Ethnic Studies controversy.

Re: “Danehy

OK, I agree with you about Chicago. They are one of the great bands and deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. But your dissing of Darlene Love shows quite an ignorance of music history. She is one of the great voices of the classic girl groups of the 60s. She sang lead on "He's a Rebel." Your comment that her professional apex was playing Danny Glover's wife is frankly assinine.

Re: “Maybe It's Time for Maureen Dowd to Go Away

Maureen Dowd consistently writes insightful, witty columns that take people in high places to task for their poor behavior. She is, of course, commenting here on Sandusky's repulsive behavior and complete lack of remorse. Her words are totally appropriate for the situation.
