Come to the TAMMIES!

Please consider this a personal invitation from me to you to attend the 17th Annual Tucson Area Music Awards (aka the TAMMIES) at the Rialto Theatre next Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., when you'll be able to enjoy food from our sponsors (including BrushFire BBQ Co., eegee's, Tucson Tamale Company and Kon Tiki). The music starts at 7 p.m., and we have a killer lineup: Performers include Andrew Collberg, Acorn Bcorn, Key Ingredients of African Soul, HAIRSPRAYFIREANDGIRLS, Band of the Year finalist Sergio Mendoza y la Orkesta, and the newest member of the TAMMIES Tucson Music Hall of Fame, Howe Gelb.

Both the food and the wonderful music are free to all who come (while supplies last, of course). In between performances, we'll be handing out TAMMIES to the deserving winners. In the Sept. 9 Tucson Weekly, you can read about all of the big winners in our special TAMMIES section.

I sincerely hope as many of you as possible come to the TAMMIES, and here's why: This is an event designed to honor the incredible work that the members of the local music community do. We don't make very much money off of the TAMMIES (if we make any at all); we, our friends at the Rialto Theatre and our sponsors produce the TAMMIES because we want to recognize the amazing work being done by our music community.

Plus, it's going to be a fantastic show. And did I mention the free food?

I'll see many of you next Wednesday, Sept. 8. In the meantime, enjoy this week's issue.
