Re: “Report Finds Large Number of Children to Young Parents Live in Poverty

Spend that $56 million on free contraception handed out at every high school.

Re: “Is There Light At the End Of the Standardized Testing Tunnel?

These standardized tests are garbage. I work in a math-centric field. I've got a CSE degree which requires the equivalent of a math minor, and I've seen the standardized math tests.
99% of the stuff on there is to check a box and make the testing company look good. It will never be used even in the unlikely event the student goes into a technical field.
Most of this stuff the student forgets a few days after taking the test anyway because they go too fast and never fully grasp the material - just enough to take the test.
At least in the case of math, there should be a fundamental redesign of our entire approach to teaching kids let alone our approach to measuring the success of teachers.

Re: “NextGen Continues Effort to Turnout Youth Vote

NextGen is a great organization fighting to stop climate change and it even targets Democrats if they don't support these efforts.
I hope young people use their power in our great democracy - whether voting, lobbying their representatives, serving in public office or serving in government positions.

That said, it is painful to see the bias of how this organization is portrayed. If a liberal-leaning organization, funded by billionaire hedge fund manager Ted Steyer, is on campus trying to swing votes for Democrats, it's portrayed as this wonderful positive thing. But if a conservative organization, for example funded by Koch brothers, is on campus, it is portrayed in a negative light and its billionaire founders are specifically called out.

Re: “Heated Struggle

Instead of "Renewable" energy, sensible environmental groups should start promoting "carbon-free" energy. Nuclear energy can and should be part of the solution in the climate emergency we are currently facing. Once the climate change emergency is over, maybe then we can talk about phasing out nuclear energy.

Also, solar power may be cheap during the day, but it's very, very expensive at night. What will Arizona do after the sun goes down?

Re: “Comeback Campaign

Ann is awesome - vote for her.

I disagree on the protestations about DACA. There was a bill this spring that would have legalized every "Dreamer." Every single Democrat voted against it! Why? Because it also had some enforcement wording requiring use of E-Verify by most employers and some modest reductions in chain migration.

You can't have a DACA amnesty without some measures to prevent the problem happening again. And it should protect American workers from so much low-wage competition. Sensible Democrats like Ann need to start talking about that.

Re: “Danehy

"man who looks like every single person at a Trump rally, including the women" - it's good to know in these uber-sensitive times there are still women whose looks you can ridicule and get away with it.
