Re: “Grijalva Calls for Interior Sec. Zinke's Resignation; Zinke Calls Grijalva a Drunk

Too bad Grijalva won't be using his chairmanship for something useful such as, for example, conserving our natural resources.
His solution to our environmental problems involves opening the border and bringing a hundred million or so more immigrants in. Not sure how that helps, but it seems to be his plan.

Re: “On the road again

"If we were 40 years younger we would walk up," - really? Only people under 30 can, you know, walk?

Re: “Sinema: "I’m Honored That Arizonans Chose Our Vision of a Better Arizona"

To be fair, most of the slimy ones on both sides were run by the party committees not the candidates but I'm sure the candidates could tell them to stop. Both were pretty good candidates - centrist and fairly independent. It must've been tough for McSally to have to buddy up to Trump to win her primary as she's been my rep for a few years and it was a total change of character. She gave a classy concession speech.
I think we have a terrific Senator in Sinema.

Re: “Pima County Road Bonds Failing in Early Returns While Park Bonds Are Headed To Passage

Funny everyone talks about how road funds have been siphoned off but can never provide a concrete example (no pun intended). We have a truth in bonding ordinance and a hostile Republican state AG. How Pima County could somehow siphon off half a billion dollars in road funds defies the imagination.
Looks like I will have to take the money earmarked for my share of bond payments and buy new struts on my vehicles. Pima County is by far the most backward urban county in Arizona. Why not just change all the residential streets back to dirt since we don't want to pony up for asphalt?

Re: “House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi: "I'm Confident We Will Win"

"We could pass a bill to protect the Dreamers in a bipartisan way right now today" - flat out lie. In the last session Democrats made clear they would only pass a no-strings-attached amnesty. A bill to legalize dreamers was voted down by every single Democrat because it contained some things the other party wanted: some enforcement provisions and a modest reduction to chain migration. Democrats have no interest in fixing the Dreamers issue, they'd rather run on the issue every election.

Re: “Charter Communications Officer Makes Nice In an Op Ed, But Tells a Few Stretchers

There is far more effective public oversight of charter school boards than there are of public boards. If charter school boards aren't doing well, parents can and will vote with their feet.
I do agree that for-profit charter schools should be banned and some rules related to administrator pay, procurement, and nepotism established.
Why are we still paying all this money for ELL after 50 years? You'd think everyone in America knew English by now. Immigrants should be required to teach themselves and their children English as a condition of entrance. Oh, yeah, mass immigration and illegal immigration are good for us. I keep forgetting.

Re: “Migrant Families Being Housed in Tucson Motels

You can help most by contributing your money and time helping them in their home countries. There are millions more who lack the resources to cross 2 or 3 countries to end up on our doorstep.
Pathfinder International is one such group you could contribute to.
Our sentimental immigration policy is like giving a dollar to a homeless person: it makes you feel better, does little or no good, and doesn't really cost you anything.
