Re: “A Border Patrol Agent Reveals What It’s Really Like to Guard Migrant Children

We need to fix our asylum system so economic migrants don't come expecting asylum. The worst part is that they know that if they bring their children on the journey, it's a free pass into the country.
Next we need to work on economic development and empowerment of poor people, especially women.
Continuing to accept economic migrants without limit is not good for either the donor country or the recipient country. The donor country loses the people most likely and capable to affect change. The recipient country gets all the problems of overpopulation and low wages associated with high immigration rates.

Re: “Why the Common Wisdom About TUSD's Declining Enrollment Is Wrong

I always wonder when I see a problem: how can I blame it on racist white people?

Re: “Anti-Social Media

Wow, you can find vulgar and non-PC junk on Facebook? Who knew? Of course when you're underfunded, not supported by Congress, regularly abused and attacked, and facing an unprecedented massive human tide, you might blow off some steam on Facebook.
Meanwhile ACO, an actual member of Congress, screamed at agents while visiting them on an official Congressional visit. Let's talk about the real problem.

Re: “Supreme Court Rejects, For Now, Citizenship Question on 2020 Census

"the U.S. Constitution put this in place so that our tax dollars could come back to our states through the federal government"
Huh? The Census wasn't put in place as a way to re-distribute wealth.

Re: “Check, Please

So we'll place a $60-$120 burden on every private gun sale (about the cost a federally licensed dealer will charge to broker the transaction) between parties that follow the law, while criminals will get to sell them for free. How is that supposed to help anything? If anything it will breed contempt for the law.
I'm in favor of doing just about whatever it takes to reduce gun violence, but this seems like a solution in search of a problem. They're doing it because it's easy, not because it will be effective.

Re: “Childcare crisis

You could write the same story in 1990 or 1970 or 1950.
Until we provide free birth control and put limits on immigration, there will always be more poor kids than middle class and rich kids and the same people will write earnest articles noting that there are kids with less than others. Nobody is going to voluntarily give up any significant portion of their hard-earned money to raise other people's kids so nothing will change.
Raising kids is not the state's job anyway.
