Big Fish

Tim Burton is a great director, but this is not one of his better films. Albert Finney stars as a man who loves to tell big stories, embellishments of events that have taken place in his life. His son (Billy Crudup) comes to join him at his deathbed, and Dad starts telling tales all over again. The stories aren’t all that interesting, and the fantasies Burton presents just don’t feel that magical. Ewan McGregor (playing the Finney character’s younger self) manages to light up the screen at times, but the film winds up feeling unimportant and just a little boring. This isn’t a major disappointment, because the film does have its moments, and Burton films always look good. Still, it just doesn’t go anywhere much worth visiting.

Big Fish is not showing in any theaters in the area.
