Best Way to Start or End the Day

Tumamoc Hill

Located adjacent to A Mountain just west of downtown, a hike up Tumamoc Hill, a U.S. National Historical Landmark, is a popular way to gain perspective while getting a great workout. It's approximately 1.4 miles of paved road and 700 feet of climbing to the top, with the reward being a perfect view of the entire Tucson metropolitan area. It's taken off in popularity over the past few years, making it a terrific place to meet new people once you catch your breath. Desert wildlife sightings are quite common, and the cast of desert critters is dependent upon the time of year you visit. The road is open to the public weekdays before 7:30 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m., as well as all day Saturday and Sunday.
