Staff Pick

There's a scene in The Rookie in which Dennis Quaid is warming up in the bullpen during a minor-league game, and he looks in the stands and sees a dad teaching his kid how to put on and use a baseball glove. It makes Quaid want to quit and go home, but then, in a later scene, he wanders around at night and is drawn by the lights from a baseball stadium where a Little League game is being played. He waves at the kid playing center field, and we all tear up a little bit. There is something magical and American about taking your kids to a ballgame. And then there's taking them to a AAA game, where the players are great but not yet spoiled and pampered, but rather, so close to the majors that the fire in the worth seeing.
