Local trainer Kirsten Cooper has designed a boot-camp training program that is not for the weak or whiny. She holds her camps at various parks around town (usually at Himmel, Udall and Fort Lowell parks), and from the moment you get there, you're moving. You're trotting sideways in circles, doing leg lifts off of bleachers, walking on boards, jumping rope, crawling across the grass while holding weights, doing push-ups off of picnic tables or racing each other—you get messy, sweaty, exhausted, strong, leaner and toned, and have a heck of a lot of fun doing it. She even had her unsuspecting campers once drag a humongous tire across the grass. After a few sessions, you'll be addicted, and actually look forward to getting up at the crack of dawn to get your butt kicked by a tiny blonde woman while getting grass stains on your knees and fighting off mosquitoes.
