Step across the threshold of Southwest Animal Health, and you'll be transported to rural Sonora circa 1965. Or 1865. Or something like that. Owner Robert Vincent was raised on a ranch in Northern Mexico, and he has re-created the feeling of it here. The front is a parlor with old ranch furniture and saddles and rawhide reatas. Peer past the counter into the back room, and see the ranchito kitchen, often wafting some heavenly scent of Café Combate, frijoles or smoky meat. The shelves in between are stocked with everything from pet food for your kitten to veterinary supplies for your prize bull. Sooner or later, every rancher worth a salt lick from either side of the border passes through here for supplies and information. Critters welcome.
