Ironhorse

Near Fourth Avenue and Broadway Boulevard (Accessed by First Avenue and Hughes)

STAFF PICK: Formerly a broken-glass-strewn vacant lot and a transient-frequented arroyo, Ironhorse Park has undergone a striking renovation in the past few years. A landscaped, walled bike path, part of the Broadway Underpass project, cuts across the southern edge. Then the neighborhood was awarded a City of Tucson Back to Basics neighborhood grant, which they chose to put part of into a micro-park with a kids' playground. About a fifth the size of nearby Armory Park and one-tenth the size of Fourth Avenue's Catalina Park, it has swings, sand, and a play structure/fort. It was also a great place to view the A Mountain fireworks at the park's dedication this last Fourth of July. Several neighborhood families are now regulars, trying to maintain kid-friendliness for what is one of the closest curly slides to our downtown office.
