Best Slightly Illegal Way to Head Off Into the Sunset

Tucson Mountain Park

Have someone drop you off somewhere along Gates Pass Road. Hike off into the desert with your pack. Work your way along the Tucson Mountains, and find a spot looking out over Avra Valley to the west. Throw down the pack; lay out the sleeping bag; cook some dinner on the tiny gas stove; and wait for sunset. The popping sounds you'll hear around sunset are the last bad guys of the day getting their just desserts at Old Tucson. Listen as the silence crawls across the land, and watch the giant golden orb of the sun sink before your eyes. See the telescopes of Kitt Peak glinting in the distance. Watch for that first fluttering bat of the evening. Sleep like a baby knowing there's no one else out there.
