If you renovate it, they will come--we promise. Would someone with lots of cash please take on the beautifully decrepit Downtown Motor Lodge? We dream of seeing it restored to its original 1950s splendor, a landmark on par with the Hotel Congress and Marfa, Texas' Thunderbird Motel--it could become a destination boutique motel in downtown Tucson. It would attract seething masses of hipsters! It currently stands empty and looks pretty skanky, but it has exquisite retro bone structure, a to-die-for neon sign and a fabulous downtown location. For the grand opening weekend gala, we'll reserve one of the upstairs VIP rooms with a terrace and panoramic views of the Tucson Mountains.
