READERS' PICK: "A home for children when there's trouble at home...." Casa de los Niños' motto almost sums up what this incredible crisis nursery is all about, but not quite: the Casa and its hard-working and upbeat staff and volunteers provide beds, food, clothing, medical care and supervised play for abused, neglected and homeless children who need temporary shelter. They also offer counseling for children, and education for parents. They work to return children to a happy home as soon as possible. For 26 years, Casa de los Niños has been a stable, nurturing institution in our community, and as such has served as a model for more than 200 crisis nurseries around the nation.
